RTC Business Park, Derby

The former Rail Technical Centre (RTC) in Derby has been transformed by LCR in partnership with Derby City Council to provide a modern business park, supporting the Derby rail cluster – the largest cluster of rail-related businesses in Europe – and strengthening Derby’s position as a centre of high-tech engineering.

The site was formerly British Rail’s research centre. It was the location for the development of Advance Passenger Trains and still includes one of only two train aerodynamics facilities in Europe.

With over 30 tenants, RTC Business Park is now one of the city’s major employment sites and home to a work force of over 1,300.

LCR’s £6.5m investment, supported by the Regional Growth Fund has attracted high profile occupiers such as Carillion Construction Limited, Hitachi Europe Ltd, Network Rail, Serco Limited and Siemens, who between them have leased over 57,000 sq ft of office space.

LCR’s successful transformation of the RTC into a modern business park has attracted rail related and other engineering companies and has helped Derby to maintain its status as the UK’s premier centre for rail and capital of high tech engineering.

Investment is ongoing to ensure that the RTC continues to meet market needs. The next stage of works includes provision of a new cafe and restaurant and expanded car parking. An Innovation Centre linked to Derby University encourages the growth of new businesses by providing serviced easy access accommodation for start-up businesses.

Overall the site offers 430,000 sq ft of office accommodation spread across more than 28-acres of landscaped grounds.
