Model of Mayfield, U+I and SEW

Mayfield Quarter, Manchester

This 24 acre site, adjacent to Piccadilly station on the edge of Manchester city centre, has been derelict for a number of years. LCR has worked with Manchester City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester to form the Mayfield Partnership and assemble the necessary land before forming a public- private joint venture with developer U&I in order to deliver a mixed use regeneration scheme in this strategic urban area.

Central to the development will be a major new park for the city sitting astride the remediated Medlock river, surrounded by up to 1m sq ft of new Grade A offices, plus 1,300 new homes, together with hotels and retail facilities. The transformation will realise its potential and respect its industrial past, creating a new city district for residents, workers and visitors as well as over 7,500 jobs.

Mayfield is a prime example of what can be achieved through partnership working and with a clear vision. LCR has been instrumental in driving forward the development on behalf of the Mayfield Partnership, including the procurement of a development partner which we have found in U+I. We are looking forward to seeing this world class development become a reality, supporting thousands of jobs and the regeneration of a key gateway site.

Sir Richard Leese Leader, Manchester City Council

‘MayBe’ – a community focused arts and cultural pop up with facilities for independent food and beverage business – is due to launch in summer 2017 in order to open the site up and allow local communities to re-engage with this forgotten part of the city.

A revised Strategic Regeneration Framework will follow, with development progressing on from this.
