Waterloo.London Launches

The letting campaign for Waterloo.London, our major retail transformation at Waterloo station, kicked off in style with an exclusive event on Thursday 20th June at House of Vans.

We welcomed around 150 retailers and agents to learn more about LCR’s vision to set a new benchmark for progressive travel retail destinations in the UK.

Waterloo.London is bringing 135,000 sq ft of opportunity for retail, food & beverage and leisure brands to the heart of the South Bank. Opening in Spring 2021, it will feature forty new glass-fronted units of various sizes over three floors, and include internal malls, as well as external-facing units along a new pedestrianised street, the Waterloo Curve.

Guests at the event experienced a VR walk-through of the scheme and heard from Waterloo.London anchor tenant, Time Out Market, about the incredible dining experience it will offer.

Adrian Lee, development director at LCR, unveiled new CGIs of the scheme and explained that Waterloo.London will give the 100 million annual passengers flowing through Waterloo and 20 million tourists visiting the South Bank a reason to stay and spend.

He also highlighted LCR’s long-term involvement in Waterloo – from master planning the station redevelopment to investing in the world’s “most democratic art gallery” in the regenerated Leake Street Arches, recently named in the top five most Instagrammed locations in the UK.

Adrian said: “The future of retail will be defined by the availability of new and exciting experiences for consumers, and we’re excited to kick start this transformation by creating a destination inspired by the creative spirit of Waterloo.”

Didier Souillat, CEO of Time Out Market, explained how Time Out’s dining concept has created the most visited place in Portugal, with 3.9 million visitors to Time Out Market Lisbon in 2018 alone.

New Time Out Markets have successfully opened in May 2019 in Miami and New York, and will be followed by Boston (June 2019), Chicago (Q3 2019), Montreal (Q4 2019), Dubai (2020) and Prague (2022) in addition to London – Waterloo in 2021.

“When we open in 2021,” he said, “the best table in town will be communal and you won’t have to reserve it in advance. We can’t wait to bring London’s outstanding and diverse culinary and cultural scene under one roof in such a great space.”

Nic Durston, CEO of the South Bank Business Improvement District (BID), explained that since its creation in 2014, the BID has made a significant difference to the area, providing security, public realm enhancement and destination marketing. Waterloo.London, he said, is “the epitome of the dynamic future coming to the South Bank.”
