Birmingham City Council has approved the outline planning application for LCR’s Axis Square development. This office led scheme is set to transform the existing Axis site and create a vibrant new commercial hub of over a million square feet, with ground floor retail and a new public square.
The approved plans for the site, located between Arena Central, the Mailbox and New Street station, include three further commercial office buildings, in addition to the 10-storey One Axis Square, which recieved detailed planning permission in January. The whole development will deliver four buildings of five to 23 storeys, set around the new public square, with vastly improved landscaping and connections through to the surrounding area.
The scheme is due to be delivered in two phases with buildings 1 and 4 being constructed first, primarily for existing tenants and new government offices, followed by the demolition of the existing building, construction of the public square and final two buildings. The development will provide sustainable modern office space, with large open plan floorplates and a focus on wellbeing, creating an attractive place to work, eat and shop in the heart of this rapidly evolving city.
