Derby Property Summit 2015

25th June 2015

On 24 June, over 350 delegates from the regeneration and property sector joined together at an event promoted by Marketing Derby at the iPro Stadium to hear announcements on development opportunities in Derby.

Updating on the £6m modernisation underway at the RTC Business Park, LCR announced that a string of top global engineering brands have moved in over recent months as a result of the investment being made. Serco Group has recently taken 9,000 sqft within the park’s Derwent House, Hitachi Europe Ltd has also taken over 6,000 sqft and Network Rail has expanded further taking an additional 16,000 sqft within Brunel House.

David Joy, Chief Executive of LCR said, “LCR welcomes the opportunity to renovate space within the RTC Business Park alongside Derby City Council and with support from the Government’s Regional Growth Fund. The £6 million of investment will deliver 200 jobs at the RTC over the next three years and provide existing and future tenants with new opportunities to grow their business. These lettings are all in the engineering and engineering consultancy sector and demonstrate that LCR's commitment to the regeneration of the site is now paying off. We are aiming to complete the project by the end of this year.”

The investment has meant that dated vacant accommodation has been comprehensively refurbished to a Grade-A specification with comfort cooling, new high grade lighting, new double-glazed windows and other measures to achieve high levels of sustainability. Phase 1 of the refurbishment programme has delivered over 30,000 sq ft of accommodation within Derwent and Kelvin House over the past six months.

The RTC Business Park was built in the 1960s and was the largest rail research complex in the world. The park which stretches to 38 acres and comprises over 430,000 sqft of accommodation is one of the major employment sites in Derby with over 30 tenants and 1,100 employees on site.
