LCR takes on BRBR properties

30th September 2013

On 30 September 2013, London & Continental Railways (LCR) took over certain properties and staff of BRB (Residuary) Ltd (BRBR).

BRBR was wound up under the Public Bodies Act 2011 and was created in 2001 to manage the majority of the remaining properties, rights and liabilities of the British Railways Board.

LCR will take on responsibility for a number of additional properties including:

  • Management of Waterloo International Station and North Pole Depot on behalf of the Secretary of State for Transport;
  • An administrative office estate comprising over 900,000 sqft of primarily office accommodation in Croydon, Derby, Manchester and Birmingham constructed originally to house the staff of British Rail but which is now sub leased to a range of tenants.
  • A number of sites with future development potential including at Oxford and Leeds.

A total of 15 former BRBR staff will transfer to work for LCR. Other elements of BRBR have been transferred to the Highway Agency, Network Rail and the Department for Transport.

David Joy, chief executive of LCR, said:

“This is an exciting moment for LCR, with an expanded team and portfolio we are in a fantastic position to grow and evolve as an organisation.

“We want to build on our existing experience at King’s Cross and in Stratford and use our now combined expertise to identify new opportunities, especially when it comes to promoting development and regeneration around railway lands and stations.”
